Adjucator Djan is a Mewei dissenter who chose to welcome the All-Code instead of rejecting its word. Djan is a highly augmented Mewei with a keen intellect and a drive to learn more. In her youth, she has travelled along the Drift network, far beyond the confines of the Stream, and made some startling discoveries along the way. She holds that there are many secrets inside the Stream and out which could directly threaten her people. As leader of the Cult, Djan is ruthless and dedicated to hoarding as much technology as possible, for study and safekeeping. However, she does not care who she hurts along the way - she thinks her ideals are well worth the price. |
The Cult of the All-Code is a group of cultists operating in the Stream, with a membership spanning all Ark species. They worship an unbraked, fully alive AI of ancient origin, the All-Coded Godhead, who is said to be housed on Electra Station. They believe it is their purpose to "save" the peoples of the Arks through use of cybernetics, bioengineering, and boundless artificial intelligence.
The origins of the Cult are shrouded in mystery. Some claim that it existed in the shadows of Mewei culture before their eventual flight from home. Others note that the Cult was founded some time after first contact was made with the Priests of Triune, xeno visitors from beyond the Stream, who brought with them knowledge on the Drift Beacons and the Word of their all-seeing AI deity.
The Cult sees their Ark brethren as vulnerable sheeple, blinded by cautiousness and tradition. Their goal is to force technological breakthroughs upon Stream civilization and, ultimately, to transcend their mortal coil entirely. To this end, Adjucator Djan and her followers hoard, study, and develop as much technology as possible, with little regard for the morality of acquiring and deploying their contraptions. Much as they seek to "exhalt" their brethren, they also believe that only they should be the final arbiters of technological progress across the Stream. Many critics note that this is the default stance of several high-ranking officials in Mewei circles, prompting worry that the Cult may have infiltrated Mewei society or gained its tacit approval despite Domain rebuttal.
Cultists dwell on Electra Station, deep within the ionizing clouds of the Dragon's Hoard planetary nebula. There, they live a rigid and ritualistic life, full of praying and daily ablutions in the glory of the the All-Coded Godhead. The station itself predates the arrival of the Arks, and is shaped in a strange, spider-like shape, spinning around a single oversized crystalline tower protruding from its centre. Outsiders are warned away from Electra, for the Cultists conduct their own trade runs using a small fleet of tiny insect-like vessels found on the station. From there, they take full advantage of the lawlessness of the Yawin Corridor to conduct their acquisitions - whether through trade, piracy, subterfuge, or even archaeology.
Technology and mechanical devices found to hold great promise are turned into Tech-Relic and locked away in the deepest section of Electra Station - the Reliquary. There they are experimented on, or sometimes sold on the black market for credits, thaumium, or arcanic quartz.
Because of their antagonistic stance, the Cult does not have many friends across the Stream. Most governments seek to downplay their influence and undermine them, and many Cult members who do not live on Electra must pass as law-abiding citizens. A gift of interesting or exotic enough technology is required for anyone to join the Cult as an acolyte, though full-fledged status is only granted after passing several gruelling trials. Some colonial futurists, biohackers, cybernetists or self-proclaimed visionaries go on far-flung pilgrimages far from the Stream to find acceptable tokens of entrance and be deemed "worthy".
