"Lightwatcher" is a Hhrot whose Legion once opposed boarding their Ark, but were compelled to. They have attempted to redeem such "cowardice" by pushing for extreme militarization. He objected to such folly, and his name was struck from Dominion records. In a show of mercy, he was banished, yet his particular stance against current Dominion doctrine has hit some stride with some of the Hhrot underclass - and with the Kalimshari. Charismatic and dedicated to justice and peace, he adapted Chantry doctrine to found his Order, triggering a series of high profile defections on both sides and earning him much respect across the colonies. |
The Order of Solaris is a quasi-religious order whose doctrine is based upon - but has splintered from - the Kalimshari Chantry of the Void. Believing that the Voidborne and the Great Jump were a divine punishment for the folly of the younger races, they seek to return to a purer interpretation of the ancient texts. They hold that the stars are manifestations of the Void Mother's will made tangible, and a reminder that all things must belong to a harmonious order, with no emotions nor excess to cloud judgement. They also believe that their faith belongs to everyone of every sentient race - not to an exclusive elite of Kalimshari priests. Thus, whilst they follow Chantry doctrine, they have also been declared heretical by the Kalimshari.
People from all walks of life make up the bulk of the Solarian Order. Lowly soldiers and exiles seeking refuge make up the "working body" of the Order. Higher up are witchwarpers and solarians, only a fraction of which are Kalimshari Ex-Templars. These form the "mind" of the Order. Together they are led by the Conclave of Five.
The Order of Solaris is based out of Radiance Station, but it wanders the Stream in a gaggle of gleaming ships, the Exhalted Fleet. They seek to bring peace and tranquility, chase evil-doers, and spread the word of their faith. They often find themselves at odd with greedy and less principled corporations, locally established colonial powers (who see them as trespassing on their jurisdiction) or cults, such as the Cultists of the All-Code, despised by the Solarians as self-important tyrants. Some dismiss the Order as luddites who would suppress self-interest. Nonetheless, they are also champions of the downtrodden and those left behind in the wake of their colony's success. They have formed a gentleman's alliance with the Mewei's Swords of Rava - another Solarian order.
Even though the Order is dedicated to peace and harmony, and would rather deal with issues that run contrary to their beliefs using reason and the rule of law, they are not afraid of using force when they deem it necessary. They determine trafficking, some types of smuggling, and exploitation to be particularly abhorrent crimes, and will act out directly against them. They can be compelled to act against a certain actor, but they are not mercenaries, and they will set their own agenda.
